Spaceman Dave

If you think any of this gibberish looks interesting, you should poke around and subscribe to my RSS feed to keep up with new content.

This last semester I took a course called Narrative Practices. Frankly, the class should be called “beginning screen writing,” but I think that would be too clear for a course title, don’t you?

In any case, we went though a number of exercises over the course of the semester which all culminated in a final project: a 10-page short. Realistically, I don’t think anyone actually hit the 10-page limit like we were all supposed to, but they all ended up being pretty good.

I wish that I could post more of them up here for people to read, but, everyone else’s work is clearly…not mine.

I am particularly happy with my script, however. I had to make some difficult cuts to get it down to 12 pages for my final version, and so here on the internet, where I am master of my own domain (did I seriously just make that pun? Dear Lord…), it can be as long as it has to be, so I added a few things back in.

My short script is called Spaceman Dave. (PDF 114k)

It will help to keep in mind that this is an animated short, somewhere between Futurama and…well I guess mostly just like Futurama. Animated future sci-fi comedy.

Oh and, this is very much copyright (c) 2006 by Jason Preston, if you steal it and make a movie out of it or represent it as your own work I will hunt you down and charge you royalties.
