Akisment, as I made sure to tell Matt when I met him a few months ago, has been the most useful extension to Wordpress I've ever used. It routinely blocks basically everything.

It's just frustrating to me to find so many barriers to the conversation on some "blogs," ya know?

Commenting is nice, but it's not a necessary feature of a blog. Of course, I think that any blog that flat-out doesn't offer comments should explain why they don't and offer another forum for feedback (such as e-mail or trackbacks).

As I'm sure you're aware, Akismet rocks and is a reason for migrating any blog to Wordpress. It makes comments unbelievably easy to manage, which eliminates the "we can't deal with comment spam" excuse, even for mega-blogs like Gizmodo and Engadget.
