DOOM, HeXen, QUAKE, and More Legendary Titles Launch Today

QUAKECON 2007-MESQUITE, TX-AUGUST 3, 2007-id Software has teamed with Valve to bring some of the most successful game franchises in history to Steam, a leading platform for the delivery and management of PC games and digital content with over 13 million accounts around the world.

Starting today, Steam users may download full versions of these best-selling and critically-acclaimed games, including the complete DOOM series and QUAKE I – III, including mission packs, as well as id’s pioneering PC side-scroller, Commander Keen and vintage favorites Wolfenstein 3D, Spear of Destiny, Heretic, and HeXen. As part of the id Welcome Celebration on Steam, select id packages are being offered with a 10%, limited-time discount.

It’s looking more and more like Steam is going to become the Wii Virtual Console of the PC, carrying all my favorite games from Deus Ex (if you haven’t yet played it, you should do so immediately) to QUAKE. Excuse me while I go cry with happiness.

I recently purchased the ID Super pack from steam and had a few problems getting dosbox to stop crashing upon startup and was attempting to edit the config files to no avail.  But I now have them working perfectly. Make sure that if you have DEP (data execution prevention) enabled to add an exception for every dosbox.exe file for each game. It worked for me and now I can play doom, and commander keen without any problems. people have already started posting similar problems on the steam forums on this issue.

    Thanks for the tip!

I haven’t been able to try playing yet since I’m on vacation and haven’t really sat down with Steam, but this will definitely save me a headache when I do.
