It really would be nice to have that kind of integration, I'm currently working on finding the best way to integrate my tumblr log with wordpress. I tried via RSS feed but it bothers me that the tumblr posts that have no title get added with the beginning text as a title. It would be a hassle to edit them each manually. I like that in tumblr you get to pick how you want the rss feed handled. I totally agree with you on this.
