With a million or more books available at a click, why should I invest the time to read all 640 pages of Advise and Consent when I can get the idea after 50 pages?

It’s not a straight comparison, but this is largely why I don’t read so much from authors like Peter F Hamilton or Robert Jordan. Those men can take four pages to describe a freaking mug. Next, please!
