Laptop Envy

I know I’m a geek because I get Laptop Envy pretty easily. My boss has a brand new MacBook Pro on the way, and my roommate Jacob has a new ultraportable (or at least he will if he can manage to be home for the scheduled delivery time).

Couple this with the fact that I just got my laptop signed by Levar Burton…it makes me really want to stow this thing in a display case and use it as an excuse to blow WAY too much money on a new laptop.

OK, now that I’ve said it, I think I can go back to ignoring my impulses. Thanks for indulging.

    I kind of had the opposite reaction today in the airport when I saw two other laptops that were exactly like mine. I felt like such a conformist.

    Yeah, Apple makes us all into drones. But we have such pretty identical products!!

    I have the *other* kind of laptop envy: I don’t even have one to hate or resent. I was going to GET a Macbook Pro, but was then informed that I live in a Mac-free home, forever and ever, Amen. Apple products are a dealbreaker, apparently. When he realized I owned an Ipod, he claimed to have an Ipod-shaped tumor, growing on his heart.

    Will anyone envy me if I get a Sony Vaio? I need at least one laptop alternative.
